A visit to Chickahominy Falls

Linda and Bobby Marchesano had heard a lot about the Four Lakes of Chesapeake development, proposed on land adjacent to the Eagle Pointe community where they live in Chesapeake, Virginia.

So when Cornerstone Homes, the developer planning the Four Lakes neighborhood, invited Eagle Pointe residents to visit and tour the company’s Chickahominy Falls community near Richmond, the Marchesanos decided to join more than 25 of their neighbors to see what Cornerstone was all about.

They were glad they did.

“I was really impressed,” Linda Marchesano said. “They were genuine and answered all the questions I had and Bobby had. They’re not your ordinary builders.”

The tour, on a sunny weekday last month, gave Eagle Pointe residents direct access to see how Cornerstone approaches design and development of its signature 55-plus agri-community concept. Chickahominy Falls is similar to the proposed Four Lakes neighborhood; both designs include spacious one-story living options, extensive natural buffers and landscaping, a professionally-managed organic farm, walking trails and other five-star amenities.

After a farm-to-table lunch featuring produce grown on site at Woodside Farms, Chickahominy Falls residents and Cornerstone staff members accompanied guests on tours of the community. They visited model homes similar to those planned for the Four Lakes community; walked through Woodside Farms, the professionally-managed farm; and toured the community farmhouse, which features a pool, fitness center and other amenities.

The well-maintained open spaces, landscaping and farm operations struck a chord with Bobby Marchesano. “It made me feel content,” he said. “I liked it. As a matter of fact, I loved it.”

The outing concluded with a casual Q&A session with Roger Glover, Founder and President of Cornerstone Homes, to allow guests to learn more about the company and the proposed Four Lakes development.

The feedback provided during that Q&A, as well as additional comments submitted online, have helped inform adjustments to the Four Lakes design, Glover said.

“We want to hear from neighbors and get their input because we want them to be pleased with the final product,” Glover said. “Our goal is to make Four Lakes of Chesapeake as desirable of a place to live, and as much of an asset to the community in Chesapeake, as Chickahominy Falls is in Hanover County.”

It’s a mission that resonated with the Marchesanos, among others.

“They’re trying to make a genuine community and let Eagle Pointe be a part of it,” Linda Marchesano said. “And right now, that’s what I think this world needs. For communities to come together instead of being separated.”
